Egypt's Humiliation and Years of Desolation

29
Chapter 29
1 In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying. 2 Son of Adam, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him and against all Egypt. 3 Speak and say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster lying in the midst of its Nile channels, which said, "My Nile is mine, and I made myself." 4 I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will stick the fish of your Nile to your scales, and I will bring you up from the midst of your Nile, with all the fish of your Nile stuck to your scales. 5 And I will abandon you to the wilderness, you and all the fish of your Nile. On the face of the field you will fall. You will not be gathered or collected for the wild animals of the land or the birds of the heavens. I have given you for food. 6 All the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the LORD, because they were a reed staff for the house of Israel. 7 When they grasped you by the hand, you broke and tore their every shoulder, and when they leaned upon you, you broke and caused their every loins to stand. 8 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am bringing a sword upon you, and I will cut off from you humanity and beast. 9 And the land of Egypt will become a desolation and a cut-off, and they will know that I am the LORD, because he said, "The Nile is mine," but it was I who did it. 10 Therefore, here I am against you and against Egypt, and I will make the land of Egypt a desolation by the sword from Migdol to Syene and to the boundary of Cush. 11 No foot of Adam will pass through it, no foot of beast will pass through it, and it will not be inhabited for forty years. 12 I will make Egypt a desolation in the midst of lands that are desolations, and its cities in the midst of cities ruined. They will be a desolation forty years, and I will scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse them in the lands. 13 For thus says the Lord GOD: At the end of forty years I will gather Egypt from the peoples where they were scattered there. 14 And I will restore the captivity of Egypt, and I will bring them back to the land of Pathros, to the land of their origin, and they will be there a lowly kingdom. 15 It will be the lowliest of the kingdoms, and it will not exalt itself anymore over the nations. And you have made them few so as not to rule over the nations. 16 And it will no longer be to the house of Israel a trust reminding them of iniquity when they turn after them, and they will know that I am the Lord GOD. 17 In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying. 18 Son of Adam, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babel made his army serve a great service against Tyre. Every head was bald and every shoulder rubbed raw, and there was no wage for him or for his army from Egypt for the service that he served against it. 19 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am giving to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon the land of Egypt, and he will lift the wage and plunder her plunder and pillage her spoil, and it will be wages for his army. 20 I have given him Egypt as payment for his service which he performed for me there, declares the Lord GOD. 21 On that day I will sprout a horn for the house of Israel, and I will give you an opening of mouth in their midst, and they will know that I am the LORD.
